Planning bulk textile-material dispatches
For bulk textile material, the purchase rate is only one part of the landed cost. Loading format, transport capacity, distance, material density, moisture and unloading arrangements can affect the practical outcome.
Confirm the loading format
Discuss whether the lot will be baled, bagged, bundled or loose. The format can affect loading time, usable truck volume and handling needs.
Plan quantity against the vehicle
Agree on an estimated load quantity with the transporter and supplier. Actual capacity depends on vehicle dimensions, material density, legal weight limits and packing.
Make the moisture basis explicit
For wet material, clarify whether quoted weight is as received or based on dry weight, how moisture will be assessed and who bears drying loss. Document the method before dispatch.
Check access at both ends
Confirm vehicle access, loading equipment, unloading space, working hours and any site restrictions.
Align on documents and timing
Confirm invoice and transport documents, dispatch date, estimated transit time, contact persons and delay handling.
Compare landed cost, not just rate
When comparing offers, include material price, freight, loading/unloading, sorting or drying costs and expected process loss where relevant.
